Subsea Cable Bend Stiffeners, also refers to bend restrictors, are used to support flexible pipes, umbilicals, and cables when connected to rigid structures or floating production systems, ensuring control over the minimum bend radius of the pipe. They are typically attached at the topside or seabed connection points.
Bend limiter designed by Philson provide essential protection against cable overbending at the exit of the J-tube bell-mouth, preventing damage to submarine cables. Their diverless design allows for direct assembly onto the cable before laying, eliminating the need for underwater operations. These cable bend restrictors come equipped with a coupling flange to accommodate Philson J-Tube Seals or Centralizers.
The design takes into account factors such as cable diameter, minimum bend radius (MBR), and the distance between the J-tube exit and the seabed. Made from durable polyurethane, they offer excellent protection against mechanical bending stresses and basic safeguarding against impacts from falling objects near the platform. The modular design also enables the customization of protection length to meet specific project requirements.
